The
Lehigh Valley International Airport has long been a part of the local
community. Once ruled by farmland, the Lehigh Valley has become a
prosperous haven, attracting industries such as telecommunications,
media, healthcare, education, and manufacturing. To meet the needs
of local and national businesses, as well as those of the everyday
traveler, LVIA also expanded. While successful in fulfilling the needs
of its passengers, LVIA recognized the potential impact that aircraft
noise can pose on the local homeowner. In an effort to minimize the
impact of such aircraft noise, LVIA created its Sound Insulation Program.
Since the inception of the LVIA Sound Insulation Program in 1995, over 430 homes and a church located in the surrounding communities of the airport have received sound insulation modifications. Additional homes are scheduled to receive sound insulation modifications in the upcoming year.
With great confidence
in the program, the airport successfully pursued and obtained federal
grants to increase the number of homes that will participate in
the program on a yearly basis. With these grant funds, LVIA has
created a dedicated Sound Insulation Program Office staffed with
a Project Manager and Project Architect to help implement this program.
The goal of the Sound Insulation Program is to address homeowner
questions and inquiries as well as assist eligible homeowners through
the sound insulation process. The architectural and mechanical modifications
of each home, provided free of charge, are determined through a
collaborative effort of the Project Manager and Project Architect.
The
Wyle Acoustics Group, a business unit of Wyle Laboratories,
Inc., has been hired by LNAA to serve as the Project Manager and
Acoustical Consultant during the design and construction process.
Wyle Acoustics Group provides applied research and consulting services
in acoustics and related specialties. In fact, Wyle has 34 years
of corporate experience in all aspects of airport sound insulation
programs, having direct experience at 38 airports across the nation.
