Lehigh Valley,
Pa. - Airport officials reported passenger traffic for the month
of October reached a record high of 93,958 at Lehigh Valley International
Airport, a 12.21% increase over October of 1998 when 83,732 travelers
passed through the Airport. The October passenger traffic is the
highest total on record for any month in the history of the Lehigh
Valley International Airport. The 93,958 passengers exceeded the
Airport's previous record of 92,488 passengers set back in July
of 1992. Passenger volumes for the year have been increasing, on
average, at a rate of 5.7% since May of 1999.
"All 11 of the
airlines serving LVIA saw their passenger traffic increase last
month," reported Bruce Tarletsky, director of business development
for the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority. He went on to say,
"The continued success of affordable-fare, nonstop jet service
from Delta Express and USAirways to Orlando, Fla., is playing a
major role in the increase in our passenger volumes." The Airport
Authority has continued its television advertising campaign on major
television stations and cable channels in eastern Pennsylvania and
in northern New Jersey. The campaign is designed to increase consumer
awareness of the Airport as the hassle-free alternative for access
to the eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey region.
Lehigh Valley
International Airport is located near Allentown, Pa., and serves
a population of 5.5 million people in a 50-mile radius and within
a 60-minute drive from the Airport.
