Lehigh Valley,
PA - One of the Navy’s former frontline fighters, a F-14A
Tomcat, will arrive at the Lehigh Valley International Airport (LVIA)
on Friday, October 10, 2003. The aircraft will then move on to it’s
final resting place at the VFW Post 7293 in Whitehall (Egypt), PA
later this month.
As a suitable
and appropriate final resting place for a Navy F-14 Tomcat, Post
7293’s location on Springmill Road just off of MacArthur
Road in Northern Whitehall, offers an elevated and panoramic
view of the greater Lehigh Valley. This site is already historically significant
for its WWII enemy aircraft watch tower which is still in place
but currently closed to the public.
The aircraft will be flown to LVIA directly from active duty with
the Navy. |

Some minor ground maintenance will be performed at LVIA
in preparation for ground transportation and display at the VFW.
Initial site preparations have been made to receive the Tomcat at
the Post. Work completion of the site will culminate with an unveiling
and dedication ceremony planned for Memorial Day 2004 at which time
the aircraft display will be opened for pubic viewing at no charge.
