TERMINAL RENOVATIONS PROJECT ALONG WITH OTHER CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE ITEMS AT LEHIGH VALLEY INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT AND QUEEN CITY AIRPORT WILL GIVE LOCAL ECONOMY A BOOST
Lehigh Valley, PA – Terminal renovations at Lehigh Valley International Airport (LVIA) coupled with other major construction and maintenance projects will give a boost to the local and national economy while enhancing safety and upgrading important infrastructure. There is currently $14.4 million in projects at the various airports owned and operated by the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority (LNAA). The first phase of the terminal renovations project which began in June at LVIA will contribute to over $7 million alone to the local economy. Other items that were approved recently by the LNAA Board totaled $5.2 million. Included in the list of items approved were:
- 1 All Wheel Drive Cab Forward Chassis Blower ($519,250.00)
- 1 Mack Truck Hi-Speed 6x6 Snow Plow with a 3500 Gallon Liquid Anti-Icing/De-Icing System ($376,855.00)
- 1 Class 3 Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting Rapid Intervention Vehicle ($296,350.00)
- Taxiway “J” Construction awarded to Lehigh Valley Site Contractors, Inc. ($2,256,435.00)
- Construction Administration Proposal for Construction of Taxiway “J” awarded to AECOM ($191,570.00)
- Work Order Authorization for Overhead Utility Relocation (RCN) ($548,393.02)
- Professional Services Agreement for Runway 13-31 Safety Area Standards Project awarded to AECOM ($358,824.00)
- Engineering Work Order Authorization for Installation of Runway 18-36 Medium Intensity Runway Lights (MIRL) and Electrical Vault awarded to L.R. Kimball ($60,000.00)
Other projects included under LNAA at Queen City Airport located in Allentown, PA were the rehabilitation this summer of Runway 7-25 in the amount of $2,803,533.00. At Braden Airpark in Easton, PA, a new fuel farm and terminal/office structure is under design.
LNAA Chairman Glenn Walbert commented; “The total amount of these projects will pump over $14.4 Million into our local economy.” “These much needed improvements to the main passenger terminal at LVIA and additional runway improvements at Queen City Airport will include a better infrastructure and will prove to be more user-friendly for our passengers and tenants.”
Lehigh Valley International Airport is located near Allentown, Pennsylvania and is served by Air Canada, AirTran, Allegiant Air, American, Continental, Delta, Direct Air, Northwest, United and US Airways. LVIA serves a twelve county area with a population base of 3.6 million people. The Airport is easily accessible from communities in eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey areas.
