Lehigh Valley,
Pa. - Now you can put an airport information booth in your hand.
Literally.
With today's launch of wireless.lvia.org,
Lehigh Valley International Airport has become the one of the nation's
first commercial airports with
a wireless website that allows travelers to obtain vital information
on their cell phones and personal digital assistants.
Flight departures
and arrivals, special airfare promotions, parking
options and directions to the airport are among the new site's offerings.
Such information permits LVIA users to confirm their travel plans
from
the convenience of a hotel room, taxi cab, restaurant or virtually
any
other location.
"Travelers
like LVIA because of its convenience. This is yet another
way we're adding to that benefit," said Susan Kittle, Customer
Service Manager. "By putting our airport's information on the
wireless web,
we are adding a level of accessibility that will save our customers
time and worries."
Information on LVIA's wireless website is updated in real time,
so the flight displays are as current as the ones in the terminal.
The content is virtually identical to LVIA's conventional website,
so users of each will obtain the same information.
Local company's
ingenious new Liberator software powers LVIA's wireless site
Creation of
LVIA's wireless website was enabled by the new Liberator platform
developed by Imirage, the region's top developer of Internet and
interactive applications.
Liberator enables conventional Internet website owners to quickly
and easily convert their on-line content for delivery to mobile
devices cell phones and PDAs without having to use
complex markup languages or rewrite existing web code.
Unique from other wireless development tools, Liberator extracts
wireless website content exclusively from its parent website, eliminating
the need to create and update parallel conventional and wireless
website entities.
"The LVIA wireless site is striking evidence of how well Liberator
works," said Jim Ludlow, chief executive officer at Imirage.
"We were able to develop LVIA's wireless site in less than
two days
a fraction of the time and cost it would have taken
if we started from scratch."
At www.goliberator.com,
companies and organizations can register for a free trial of the
Liberator wireless Internet tool. Sign-up takes only a few minutes,
after which registrants can download simple website preparation
instructions. After tagging the wireless content portion of their
websites, they can preview their wireless sites from a pop-up window
on the website. Once satisfied with the look and functionality,
they can "go live" and make their wireless web sites available
to the entire wireless world.
The number of people who today carry mobile Internet-enabled devices
is expected grow to about 153 million in 2005, a staggering increase
from today's 4 million. The wireless Internet gives businesses a
unique opportunity to deliver dynamic information special
sales, driving directions, or product release news to their
mobile customers.
