Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority to Receive Donated Jet from FedEx Express
Lehigh Valley, PA - A recently retired FedEx Express aircraft will find a new home at the Lehigh Valley International Airport (LVIA).
FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company, has donated a Boeing 727-100 freighter to provide hands-on educational experiences for the airport’s department of Public Safety.
George F. Doughty, Executive Director of the Authority noted, “The aircraft will be used in training exercises related to aircraft incidents, accidents, hijacking and terrorism. These exercises are provided for airport police officers and firefighters as well as numerous agencies including the FAA, TSA, FBI and other local first responder organizations.”
Making its final flight, the 727 will arrive at the Lehigh Valley International Airport about 10:15AM. A 3-member crew will fly the plane to LVIA.
Before its final flight to the Lehigh Valley International Airport, the aircraft (N194FE) provided more than 16 years of service to FedEx transporting packages to destinations throughout the U.S.
The donation of the 727 to the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority creates an opportunity for the most realistic training possible to meet FAA and other certification standards.
“FedEx Express is proud of its commitment to the communities we serve and in which our employees live and work. The donation of this FedEx 727 is just one example of the many ways FedEx supports educational endeavors,” said David Sutton, assistant general manager, FedEx Aircraft Acquisitions and Sales.
