Lehigh Valley International Airport Releases December 2006 Passenger Traffic Report

Lehigh Valley, PA—Airport officials announced today that passenger traffic at the Lehigh Valley International Airport (LVIA) for December 2006 increased 7.83% when compared to December 2005. Year-to-date 2006 passenger traffic declined 5.18%. A total of 66,434 passengers utilized LVIA in December 2006 compared to 61,609 in December 2005.

We are encouraged by the increase in passengers during the last quarter of 2006 and expect this trend to continue through 2007, explained George F. Doughty, Executive Director for the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority. Traffic is expected to continue to grow as Allegiants departures grow to 14 flights per week in FEBRUARY and other carriers gradually add seats.

While the past six years have been financially stable for the Airport Authority, the health of the air travel industry has been impacted by first the attacks on 9-11-2001 and most recently by dramatic increases in the cost of fuel. With fuel prices moderating, and airlines expanding at LVIA, we expect a return to the higher passenger totals of the recent past, Doughty said.

Lehigh Valley International Airport is located near Allentown, Pennsylvania and is served by Air Canadas Air Georgian, Allegiant, Continental Express, Delta Connection, Northwest, United Express and US Airways Express. LVIA serves a twelve county area with a population base of 3.6 million people. The Airport is easily accessible from communities in eastern Pennsylvania and northern New Jersey areas. The airport is entirely funded by user fees; no property tax dollars are used for the airports capital improvements or for its day-to-day operation.
