Lehigh Valley,
PA - December 2002 passenger traffic at Lehigh Valley International
Airport (LVIA) was up 25.97% as compared to December 2001. This
is just 1% under December 2000 traffic levels. Total passengers
for 2002 were down 12.57% from 2001.
This dramatic
return of passenger traffic to LVIA has been the result of an overwhelming
response to new low-fare service to Florida by Southeast Airlines.
Southeast Airlines, Inc. flies MD-80 aircraft to Sanford/Orlando,
Tampa/St. Petersburg and Fort Lauderdale with fares as low as $59
each way.
"The response
to this new service has been remarkable. We intend to aggressively
recruit additional service to replace destinations and seats lost
by continued contraction of the major airlines," commented
George F. Doughty, Executive Director for the Lehigh Northampton
Airport Authority. Doughty went on to say, "We expect continued
growth in 2003 with the possibility of returning to pre-September
11th levels."
